2025 National Society of Film Critics Winners Voting Taking Place

[ad_1]

The National Society of Film Critics took to its Bluesky account on Saturday to begin voting for the best in film over the last year.

In 2024, Past Lives received the top prize, with May December and The Zone of Interest each receiving two awards.

The organization was founded in 1966 and is made up of more than 60 critics from outlets across the country. They vote on their selections for best picture, director, actor, actress, supporting actor and actress, screenplay and cinematography annually. Depending on the year, the critics may also hand out awards to the best film no in English, nonfiction film, production design and film heritage.

According to the NSFC’s Bluesky posts, voting is conducted via a weighted ballot system. On the first ballot, members vote for their top three choices. The nominee that receives the most points and appears on a majority of the ballots wins, the organization explained. If there is no winner decided from the first ballot, the category goes to a second one without any proxies. Voting continues for as long as needed until a nominee receives the majority.
