Are celebrities just like us? Are they nothing like us? It’s a debate for the ages, but if you ask me, it’s a little from column A, a little from column B. Nothing makes that equipoise more apparent than when a famous person shows us what they’re carrying in their (more expensive than mine) bag. If Anne Hathaway is any indication, it’s a mix of unglamorous basics, glamorous beauty products, and a very important reminder or two.
Hathaway posted a video to both TikTok and Instagram on Wednesday, September 25, looking casual yet chic and clearly in a sharing mood. “I thought that you might want to know what’s in my bag,” she says, revealing that she has a mini first-aid aisle. “So this is an anti-nausea smelling salt because you never know when you or someone else will be in tight quarters someplace and somebody just gets overwhelmed and then you are prepared,” she says, then fanning out a huge handful of adhesive bandages. “Band-Aids. Oh my gosh, I think I have a full house here. I might have a full deck.” Also in there? Antibiotic ointment.
Before she gets to the beauty booty, Hathaway shares a sticky note that’s in one of the bag compartments—one that reads “40 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION” (though now November 5 is even sooner since she posted, so don’t start counting from 40 today). “Today, my thing that I’m going to do is I’m going to make sure that I am registered to vote. What are you going to do?” she asks, inviting followers to share how they’re being proactive about the election in the comments.
But back to the stuff! This is basically the rapid-fire round. “Face sheets. She goes on to show us a Native Deodorant, sunscreen (it seems to be Actinica Lotion, which is not easy to get in the US, so there’s one of those celeb perks), By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm, what I’m quite confident is a new Best of Beauty Award-winning Gucci Westman Lip Suede Matte Lipstick, Tarte Opening Act Lash Primer, the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler (which also just won another Allure Best of Beauty Award), Gucci Westman Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Petal, Clinique High Impact Shadow Play Shadow + Definer, RevitaBrow Advanced (I’m seriously starting to think someone leaked the 2024 Best of Beauty winner list to Anne Hathaway), a Chanel eye pencil, concealer (it looks like another Gucci Westman component, but I can’t confirm), a hair elastic and clips, a brush and comb, a Charlotte Tilbury lip pencil, and Jillian Dempsey Flyk Trick Mascara.
