Pack your bags, we’re going to camp!
This year’s CultureCon welcomed 22,000 attendees to a two-day, camp-themed gathering at Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York, where Black creative professionals and entrepreneurs could connect, learn, and build together. The 2024 lineup of speakers (read: camp counselors) featured the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Yara Shahidi, Law Roach, and many other creative talents. Topics ranged from using your platform to drive change and building a long-term creator career to finding balance and beating burnout.
Participants were instructed to follow five camp rules: make a friend, stay curious, spread love, take care, and be brave. “This is the first year we’ve ever had a theme and I feel like it grounds the conference,” CultureCon founder Imani Ellis tells Vogue. “Camp is all about resting and play, and as you enter adulthood it’s a lot of work and stress; we tuck away our inner child. I feel like it’s refreshing to pause because being creative has a lot to do with joy and being happy.” On that note, individuality and self-expression were championed by attendees dressed in showstopping street-style looks and bold beauty trends. From denim and cargo fits with subtle twists to come-as-you-are looks, camp style never looked better. Ahead, the best fashion from CultureCon 2024, captured by Vogue.
