Rosé Makes Her Favorite Kimchi Fried Rice Dish—And Dishes About Her New Album, ‘Rosie’

[ad_1]

“Do you want me to tell you a secret?” Rosé asks the camera in her “Now Serving” video for Vogue, in which celebrities cook their favorite meal. “My ultimate dream in life is to be retired and own a cilantro farm.” Then, she keeps going. “I’m going to have a Michelin chef create a full cilantro course menu. It’s going to be a winery, but a little cilantro-y—I’m just going to sit by my cilantro farm and have my cilantro cocktail!” In case you need further proof of the K-pop star’s love for cilantro, she covers her homemade kimchi fried rice with a giant pile of the controversial herb. (You either love it, or believe it takes like soap—there seems to be no in-between.)

It’s a busy period for Rosé, with her debut studio album, Rosie, on the horizon. In the lead-up, she released a buzzy single, “Apt,” featuring Bruno Mars. The title—which is pronounced apateu—was inspired by a joyful drinking game that the Blackpink member made up in her own apartment. (She explains the rules in her “Now Serving” video, if you’re curious.) At first, she was hesitant to release it. “Is this ok that I’ve written a song about a drinking game?” Rosé asked herself constantly. After enough encouragement from her family, friends, and producers, she decided to move forward.

It’s that inner circle, by the way, who call her Rosie rather than her stage name of Rosé. To indicate the intimacy of her new material, the singer made her nickname the title of her new album. “It’s been a long journey,” says of the process behind creating Rosie. “I was trying to be independent, I was out here trying to navigate this next chapter of my life.”

Below, watch Rosé reveal more about the record—as well as about her journey to becoming a member of Blackpink—as she serves up kimchi fried rice and the Korean cocktail somaek. “All you need is a whole chunk of kimchi, the good ol’ Spam, gochujang (so chili paste), olive oil, eggs, and rice. Oh, and sugar. My mom told me not to put it in,” she says of her family recipe.
