Who said nepotism is only for the children of celebrities?
Andie MacDowell made an appearance on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she revealed she’s experiencing “reverse nepotism” because of her now-famous daughter Margaret Qualley.
The Way Home actress said nepotism is something “they always accuse the children of.” However, she added, “I’m now cool because I’m Margaret Qualley’s mom. And also Jack Antonoff’s mother-in-law. I’m like, it’s a double whammy.”
MacDowell also told host Jimmy Fallon that she’s received “letters in the mailbox” from people who “think [she’s] wonderful and they’re 13.” The 66-year-old actress has clearly reached a new, younger audience thanks to her 30-year-old daughter.
Qualley followed in her mother’s acting footsteps, most recently starring in The Substance, opposite Demi Moore. Her role as Sue earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She has also been married to Antonoff, singer-songwriter, longtime Taylor Swift collaborator and founder of the Bleachers, since 2023.
Elsewhere during her conversation with Fallon, MacDowell also praised her daughter’s performance in The Substance. “The movie is fantastic, and she takes so many chances. She’s so much braver than I could have ever been,” the Groundhog Day star said. “She really carved her own road and I’m super, super proud of her.”
MacDowell has starred in dozens of projects throughout her career, including Hudson Hawk, Jane by Design and My Happy Ending, after making her onscreen debut in the 1980s. In addition to Margaret, she also shared daughter Rainey Qualley and son Justin Qualley with her ex-husband, Paul Qualley.
