Armie Hammer Returns to Acting With Western Movie Frontier Crucible

Armie Hammer is returning to the big screen after his Hollywood career came crashing down around him amid numerous sexual misconduct allegations.

Hammer is set to star in Frontier Crucible, a period western from director Travis Mills and producer Dallas Sonnier.

“I’ve built a career producing masculine indie movies, such as Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete, Muzzle and The Standoff at Sparrow Creek and worked with legendary actors including Kurt Russell, Vince Vaughn, Mel Gibson, Jason Sudeikis, Guy Pearce, Aaron Eckhart, Don Johnson, Stephen Lang, James Badge Dale, Steve Austin, and more.  And, now, I’m pumped to work with Armie Hammer on Frontier Crucible,” Sonnier told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday in a statement.

Hammer teased his big screen return on his Instagram page with photos of himself on the Frontier Crucible set and a front page of the movie’s script on the ground. His return to the movie business follows the great-grandson of oil magnate Armand Hammer becoming a Hollywood A-lister, but seeing personal troubles force him into exile.

Hammer’s downfall was touched off by snippets of sexually charged text messages with various women surfacing in early 2021. That same year a woman named Effie accused him of raping her in 2017. Two other women then came forward and accused Hammer of subjecting them to emotional abuse so severe it led them to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Hammer countered that the relationships were all consensual sadomasochistic arrangements but conceded he was emotionally abusive to the women. Following an investigation, the Los Angeles county district attorney declined to indict Hammer in 2023, citing insufficient evidence.

As he steps back into acting, Frontier Crucible, starring Thomas Jane, centers on an ex-soldier reluctantly teaming up with outlaws, a woman and her injured spouse as they navigate the perilous Arizona frontier in the 1870s. Together, they battle the harsh elements and hostile forces in a desperate bid for survival.

There’s no word on which role Hammer will have in the western that also stars Myles Clohessy, Zane Holtz, Mary Stickley and Eddie Spears. Sonnier is producing the indie film to shoot in Arizona in November via his Bonfire Legend banner.

Hammer’s comeback includes a podcast, The Armie HammerTime Podcast, unveiled earlier this week.
