As far as the Golden Globes’ red carpet is concerned, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
As for what’s changed since the event’s 1944 debut, starlets have gone from Old Hollywood curls to waves, bobs, crops and everything in between; what’s stayed the same is the impact each hairdo has on beauty for the remainder of awards season.
Take Reese Witherspoon’s side-partered curls when she walked the carpet in 2001; or more recently, Jennifer Lopez’s take on the coiffure in 2024. Also in the Golden Globes’ hall of hair fame is Charlize Theron in 2019, or Janelle Monáe’s bejeweled updo in 2017.
Lady Gaga accepted her Golden Globes win with a voluminous bob à la Marilyn Monroe in 2016, while the year prior, Kerry Washington attended with a just-done-enough easy chignon. Last year, Julia Garner sideswept her cropped platinum curls. And who could forget Elizabeth Debicki’s sleek middle-parted, silvery-blonde layers in the same year?
Many red carpet heavy-hitters are also up for 2025 awards Sunday. Among them, Angelina Jolie for her performance in Maria; Nicole Kidman for Babygirl; Kate Winslet for Lee; Zendaya for Challengers and Mikey Madison for Anora.
