Marc Jacobs Spring 1995 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Editor’s note: This year was a big one for Marc Jacobs, who marked his 40th anniversary in fashion and became the first guest editor of American Vogue. We’re closing out 2024 with an archival look back at the designer’s career. This spring 1995 collection, presented in New York on October 29, 1994, has been digitized as part of Vogue Runway’s ongoing efforts to document the history of fashion shows.

Writing about the “dial-a-decade” spring season 1995, Vogue reported that “Marc Jacobs revisited the sophisticated, sexy Saint Laurent woman of the ’70s.” There was that, for sure—and so much more. Included in the mix were leis and Mickey Mouse ears, anchor-festooned nautical looks, and satin Western dresses available to order from Nashville’s own Manuel. Closing the show in gold lamé looks with a ’30s flair were Kate Moss, with a crown of flowers in her hair, and Kristen McMenamy, who wore a black witch’s hat and cape. Models carried balloons, which seemed suggestive of a costume party.
