On the Podcast: Jack Schlossberg on Election Night—And What Happens Next

[ad_1]

So, I don’t know where traditional media goes from here. No one that I know watches cable news. I’m the only person I know who watches all that stuff. You have to make videos, which is terrifying. You have to make social media videos or they’ll be watching something else.

Chloe Malle: And anyone can make those videos and say whatever they want.

Jack Schlossberg: Yes.

Chloe Malle: Abortion was a major issue going into this election, it was very much top of ballot for a lot of people, what happened?

Jack Schlossberg: I think that reproductive rights were extremely motivating during the midterm elections, but during the presidential election, it seemed to be way less of a concern and factor in people’s voting preferences, so that’s a big surprise actually yeah, and yeah A I think the Harris campaign to their credit like they said okay like democracy and reproductive rights are the [00:17:30] things that we’re gonna like Hammer, But I think, obviously, people resonate, a different message resonated this time.

Antrim: I think the Florida measure which was a big victory for DeSantis, is the headline for me. I think Florida’s really a changed state, too. If we think back, to George W. Bush, for instance, that was the hanging chad election, right? And Florida was on a knife’s edge. No one thinks Florida’s on a knife’s edge anymore. So, that’s actually kind of a fascinating story to me.

Chloe Malle: Ok, what were a few bright spots for Democrats?

Taylor Antrim: I mean, I think about North Carolina where we have a new governor Josh Stein beat Mark Robinson, probably the most flawed governor candidate, but, nonetheless, good for Josh Stein.

Jack Schlossberg: Senator Tammy Baldwin held onto her seat in Wisconsin. That’s great. I’m very excited about that. Hopefully, Laura Gillen in New York, in Nassau County, will win.

Chloe Malle: Sarah McBride, the first transgender rep in U.S. history, won in Delaware. I think those are sort of the bright spots. Maybe more will come clear in the days that follow for Democrats.

Taylor Antrim: I think when I look ahead, I’m curious who this is going to make space for in the Democratic Party. And you’ve traveled widely to be with members of the Democratic Party and I wonder if there are any people that have really impressed you and that you’ll be paying attention to in the years to come.
