Ted Danson has been tapped to receive the 2025 Carol Burnett Award honor at The Golden Globes Awards.
Danson, an Emmy and Golden Globes award winner, will receive the trophy with Carol Burnett’s name on it to recognize his contributions to TV on or off screen. Along with 2025 Cecil B. DeMille Award winner Viola Davis, Danson will be honored at a gala dinner on Jan. 3, 2025 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Danson earned Golden Globes for best performance by an actor in a limited series or TV movie for the film Something About Amelia in 1985, and won for best performance by an actor in a TV series for his star turn as Boston bartender Sam Malone on the popular sitcom Cheers in 1990 and 1991.
Past recipients of the Golden Globes namesake award include Burnett, Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy and Ellen DeGeneres. “Ted Danson has entertained audiences for decades with his iconic performances that will forever be ingrained in television history,” Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes, said in a statement on Monday.
“His renowned career is a testament to his remarkable talent and versatility as an actor and bears resemblance to the award’s legendary namesake. It is an honor to present him with the 2025 Carol Burnett Award to celebrate the tremendous impact he has made and continues to make in television,” she added.
Danson’s other credits include the Mr. Mayor comedy, Fargo, CSI and CSI: Cyber, Damages and Becker. He will appear in the upcoming Netflix comedy A Man on the Inside.
Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024.
