Pants lovers rejoice! Teurn Studios’ pre-fall assortment of trousers is phenomenal. It includes a baggy leather pair to wear with a neat cashmere top; paper-bag-waists to wear traditionally high, or refreshingly low on the hips; and black denim that’s been brought in a bit—“they are oversized, but not crazy oversized,” said Anna Teurnell on a call—to combine with, say, a fitted double leather jacket or a cropped topper cut so close to the body that the designer said she’d wear it as a shirt.
As for actual shirts, there are button-downs with pointy collars (they come to a triangle at the back, almost as if you had tied on a square scarf). Pleated trousers in an almost neon red lend a touch of color to an offering realized mostly in black. The use of a beige check and a dark pinstripe add a sartorial touch, while the studded belts produce a slight Western vibe, the designer said.
This pre-fall offering continues in the boyish vein Teurnell has been exploring over the past few seasons. Buyers have been requesting dresses, which has the designer asking herself, “what is femininity for me right now?” The single frock she delivered is a double-leather midi with a V-neck and a functional pocket. There are two pieces that draw attention to the waist, and there are fun accessories, like an orange sandal, that can upend expectations. Yet at Teurn Studios, femininity is tied much more to a woman-friendly wardrobe than to an aesthetic or a specific garment. And that feels modern.
