Rapper Fatman Scoop died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a spokesperson for the Connecticut medical examiner’s office confirmed to Page Six Wednesday.
Scoop’s cause of death was natural and no foul play is suspected.
The rapper and DJ, who was born Isaac Freeman III, died after collapsing onstage while performing in Hamden, Conn., on Aug. 30.
The 53-year-old musician was rushed to the hospital but was not able to be revived.
The following day, Scoop’s tour manager, Birch Michael, confirmed his death on Facebook.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III, Known professionally as Fatman Scoop,” his statement read.
“You taught me how to be the Man I am today. I Love you Scoop, Thank you so much for everything you gave to me.”
His immediate family also shared a statement on his Instagram page on Aug. 31 and remembered him as “a radiant soul, a beacon on stage and in life.”
“FatManScoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend,” the message continued.
“He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”
They also praised his music as something that encouraged people to “dance and embrace life with positivity.”
“His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten,” his family added.
Scoop’s legacy was also honored by several members of the rap and hip-hop community.
Missy Elliott, who collaborated with Scoop on her 2005 single “Lose Control,” said, “Fatman Scoop VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten.
Ciara, who also worked with Elliot on “Lose Control,” said, “You were truly one of the best voices in hip-hop! I’m so glad I got to experience your greatness! We will all miss you greatly ❤️.”
He reportedly left behind a son and a daughter.
