Kate Upton is setting the record straight about the “scary” post she shared via social media a few weeks ago.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Monday, the model clarified that her post about a “drunk and high” dad who allegedly put his daughter in danger was not referring to her husband, Justin Verlander.
“I posted a scary emergency situation on my Story and I know many of you have been concerned. But a few people mistakenly thought the situation involved my husband,” Upton, 32, explained to her followers.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model went on to clarify that their daughter, Genevieve, is 6 years old; not 10 like the child she wrote about last month.
“To clarify: we do not have a 10-year-old. Our daughter is 6, and Justin would never put her in such a terrifying or life-threatening situation,” Upton continued.
“He is a wonderful father whose unwavering priority is ensuring our daughter is safe, loved, and protected every single day.”
Upton — who married the Houston Astros pitcher in 2017 — noted that the original post was actually about her sister’s daughter.
“Navigating this situation to protect my niece has been so challenging, especially knowing that her safety is ultimately in the hands of professionals in Brevard,” Upton wrote.
“The legal system can be so complex and in my opinion has raised alarming questions about whether the priority is protecting a father’s privacy and privilege over the wellbeing of innocent children.”
The “Other Woman” actress then went on to say that she herself — along with her sister and Verlander — are doing all they can to protect Upton’s niece.
“My sister, Justin and I are doing everything we can to protect her,” she penned, while adding she admires her niece’s “bravery and resilience after facing a situation no child should endure.”
Upton concluded the post by thanking her followers for their support and asked everyone to keep her niece in their thoughts.
Nearly one month ago, the proud aunt took to her Instagram Story to ask her followers for advice about a father who was allegedly putting his child in danger.
“Truly asking … lawyers/judges/advocates/law enforcement/ parents,” Upton wrote in the post at the time, before she described a scenario in which a “dad,” who is “recently out of rehab,” is traveling alone with his 10-year-old daughter.
“He gets drunk and high on pills, saying he has a gun on him, and threatens to SHOOT the taxi driver if he does NOT drop them off on the highway at midnight to walk home,” she added.
“Thankfully, the taxi driver refuses and would rather be shot than drop the little girl off on the highway.”
She proceeded to ask her followers if the situation described is considered an “an emergency? A crime?” and if they would be “scared” if it was their child in question.
Upton made sure to add a comment box for “feedback” on the bottom of the post for those with knowledge to weigh in.
